I've yet to run across a flaking blue on a 9422, in looking at 100-odd rifles over the past 35 years - so maybe yours was chemically damaged by some solution.I see that Numrich doesn't even list the elevator which is kind of weird since it doesn't appear to come with the rear sight assembly like some of the other Winchester models.
