Mar 22, 2017 · Member. Hey guys! So the 656 I'm working on has been converted to electronic ignition (pertronix ignitor). This was done shortly after the owner noticed it was running poorly and lacking power. Now I have found some mechanical issues, but had a few electrical questions as well. First, coil says external resistor required, but I don't see one.

Without that the ignitor will not live. Uh, my personal solution would be to forget the ignitor, keep the BLaster coil, go back to points, a ballast resistor, and a MSD6.Remove all 4 spark plugs so they are out of the engine at the same time. Clean any dirt from around the spark plug bases before removing the spark plugs, so dirt doesn't go into the cylinders. Use the starter for the test, not the hand crank. Charge the battery fully before doing the test.
