Yet at 800-1000 RPMs she was smooth as silk, and anything in excess of 1500 all the way to 5000 she didn't miss a beat. Look up underneath the edge of the flywheel and see if mark "a" on the flywheel is lined up with mark "b" on the timing plate base. That is full advanced. I was checking and adjusting the timing on my 1996 Evinrude 40HP outboard, Model: E40TELEDS. The adjustment link is "pulled in" to the maximum, and minimum position screw is all the way in. During normal idle, mark is at -2 to -4 degrees, and at WOT its only at +12 degrees.
